Junior Doctors Association (JDA)

is a non-governmental organization representing junior doctors in Lithuania, established on the 27th of November in 2008. 

JDA aims to represent interests and rights of junior doctors, improve junior doctors’ working conditions, quality of their training as well as the general quality of patient care in Lithuania. In order achieve the quality of resident doctors' training in Lithuania which would meet European standarts, JDA cooperates with the Lithuanian Ministry of Health, the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science, the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Care, Vilnius University, Kaunas Medical University, international Junior Doctors organizations, and other NGOs. Since June 2009 JDA is member of European Junior doctors Permanent working group.

Achievements:

Carrying out our activities and cooperating with various governmental institutions, we have already achieved:
  1. Official employee status for resident doctors;
  2. Better social warranties (social insurance, paternity/maternity benefits, officially accepted work experience);
  3. Increase of income;
  4. Legal defense of resident doctors’ interests.
Mission (why do we exist?)

We work so that junior doctors can:
  • expand their theoretical knowledge,
  • improve their skills,
  • freely choose a health care institution for his of her practice and have satisfactory working conditions,
  • get a fair salary for his or her work.
Vision (what do we want to achieve?)
  • JDA is an independent, democratic, open, dynamic, and constantly improving organization of young doctors of Lithuania, based on principals of equality, responsibility, and solidarity, aiming for effective, economically justified, and favorable education system which would be favorable for young doctors;
  • Junior doctor and doctor resident is a competent, constantly improving physician who provides high quality health care facilities in a freely chosen health care institution;
  • Doctor specialist and/or family physician is a specialist who is capable of working independently in the field of his/her specialty, making decisions based on effectiveness and cost of his/her work, providing the highest quality of service, efficiently communicating, motivating a community as well as an individual to take care of their health, working effectively in a team which is directly related to other partners in the system of health and social development.
Values (what is important to us?)
  1. Independence. JDA is an independent, nonpolitical organization which unites young doctors and is not subordinate to governmental institutions, institutions of higher education or other organizations.
  2. Openness. JDA is a progressive, socially proactive young doctors’ organization which is a partner to other Lithuanian and world organizations and state institutions.
  3. Integral attitude to the health care system, young doctors, and patients.
  4. Equality. Every young doctor has equal rights to education, professional development, and involvement in the association work.
  5. Responsibility. JDA is a young doctors’ organization which functions by principles of moral and professional responsibility.
  6. Competence. Common values, abilities, skills, and members’ qualification enables us to provide high quality health care facilities, encourages our members’ professional development, and form each member’s responsible attitude to his or her activities in the association.
  7. Democracy. The association operates on the basis of democratic values: junior doctors and doctor residents are officially represented by an elected committee.
  8. Solidarity. Association members solve all arising problems collectively: they make decisions that are beneficial for everybody in the organization and cooperate for their execution.

Rezidentai pageidauja, kad teorinių žinių ir praktikos įgūdžių santykis būtų 20-30 ir 70-80% atitinkamai. 55% rezidentų norėtų atlikti rezidentūros praktiką kitose rezidentūros bazėse, o 85% jau pabaigusių gydytojų teigia, kad tai būtina. Net 64% gydytojų rezidentų neturi poilsio dienos po budėjimo, o 33,2% papildomai dirba kitose gydymo įstaigose. Pabaigę rezidentūrą Lietuvoje planuoja dirbti tik 46% apklaustųjų rezidentų. Plačiau
